The Green Party

Perhaps many of us can agree that the political system in the US leaves a lot to be desired.  I personally don’t understand how we are content to allow only two parties to have any clout whatsoever.  How can two parties possibly reflect the entire political thought of a nation?

They don’t.  And I’m not sure why we have this obsession to reduce issue discussions or candidate campaigns down to two sides.  It turns things into a sporting event.   Why not have 3 to 5 candidates or ideas in the public discourse each with equal clout?

I could go on and on about Electoral Reform, but my purpose on this page is to tout the Green Party.

The Green Party most represents my views.  The Green Party is based on 10 Key Values.  These are:

  • Grassroots Democracy
  • Social Justice and Equal Opportunity
  • Ecological Wisdom
  • Non-violence
  • Decentralization
  • Community-based Economics and Economic Justice
  • Feminism and Gender Equity
  • Respect for Diversity
  • Personal and Global Responsibility
  • Future Focus and Sustainability

If you want even more details about the above, take a look at the Green Party Platform.  The Democratic Party, much less the Republican Party, doesn’t even come close to this set of ideals.

Were you not satisfied with the choice of the major parties for US President in 2012? Check out Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate in the 2012 Presidential campaign.

I am also involved in starting the Kentucky Chapter of the Green Party.  This is a daunting task being in a conservative state.  If you’d like to help and get involved please get in touch!
